Chile, a Country of Social and Geographical Contrasts
Participate in Our Tours

The tours we offer are designed so that Transformations participants can learn about the contrasts, the two faces of Chile.
Chile is a country of contrasts. Its varied geography consists of a broad spectrum of landscapes and climatic zones: from the heights of the Andes mountains to the mystery of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), from the southern glaciers to the driest desert in the world in the north, the Desert of Atacama that blooms every 10 years, and this year it will be in bloom in October. The contrasts also live in the culture and in the painful deep social inequalities, presenting a Chile with two faces, two realities that live almost without seeing each other. The political history of Chile has created a society that seeks heritage value both in memory, and in the hills of Valparaíso.

TRANSFORMATIONS TOUR
SANTIAGO CITY TOUR, MUSEUMS OF MEMORY AND OPEN SKY

palacio moneda museo memoria museo mural

Santiago is one of the most segmented cities in Latin America, a tour of Santiago offers a landscape of modernity and progress, but also more precarious neighborhoods, one of these is the “Open Sky” where color and joy has been painted on the walls by those that live there. Finally, the visit to the Museum of Memory will allow us to understand a part Chile’s history, in which the political root of the dictatorship, left deep traces in our society.
We invite you to visit the city of Santiago, founded in 1541, and get to know one of its main cultural landmarks. The Open Sky Museum in San Miguel has become the largest collective expression of street art in Chile. Original works of muralism and graffiti created by established and emerging national and international artists, using a variety of techniques, share the stage and intermingle with each other. These works of street art were made with the permission of the residents of the San Miguel community who were looking to stop the deterioration of the buildings, produced by decades of pollution and vandalism. The project is unique for its participation of the local community which generates a work of art that has a sense of belonging to its surroundings. We will take a tour of the community and enjoy these wonderful giant murals that measure 85 m2 and that, as of January 2019, brings together more than 6,000 m2 of art to the San Miguel community.
We will then move on to the Plaza de Armas, the founding center of Santiago where will you find not only emblematic buildings such as the Cathedral, the Municipality of Santiago and the National Historical Museum that are symbols of the origin of the city and have witnessed the city’s development over more than four centuries, but you will also see the art and people that fill this space with life.
Later, we will move on to the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, a space designed to give visibility to human rights violations committed by the State of Chile between 1973 and 1990. The Museum of Memory and Human Rights is a dynamic and interactive space that focuses on the recent history of Chile which aims to stimulate reflection and debate about the importance of respect and tolerance, so that we learn from the past and promote a culture of respect and dignity for all.
